A Quora thread shows how people have different opinions about the issue as some say it is possible to lose weight in a short span of time with the help of surgeries while others completely shun it.
One of the Quora users said that he lost 20kgs in 60 days and substantiated his point with his pictures before and after the weight loss. He wrote: "The key to losing weight is unbelievably simple. You simply have to eat the food that the human body is designed for. Exercise is not required for weight loss. Your body manages its weight hormonally."
But another Quora user differed in his opinion and said, "There's no quick fix for losing weight. And any book or product that claims to have one is not being honest with you. Even surgical opt ions, which are far from risk-free, are often temporary solutions that result in weight gain once patients return to their old unhealthy habits."
There are many reasons behind obesity. The user said the change in lifestyle has made us workaholic with no time to focus on nutritious meal. "After a long, hard day, it's much easier to visit your local fast-food chain and take food home than to cook our own meals...with the advancement of technology, we spend more and more time playing video games, watching TV, and using the computer. Our sedentary lifestyles keep us and our kids from playing outdoors and getting more physical exercise."
One of the Quora users figured out the Math behind quick weight loss. He said, "If you can burn 5,000-6,000 kcal every day for next 20 days, there is a possibility to lose 10kgs."
Some advised against following a crash weight loss program saying that weight loss is a gradual process. One of the users said, "Even if it's possible, never do it, unless your career is acting or modeling! Even then, please don't! To reduce that much, you will put such a large strain on your body, that it would be very hard to stay healthy with that kind of weight loss! Walk or jog every day for an hour, workout, eat healthy, lose about 1-1.5 kgs per month. That will keep you healthy and fit."
Moreover, if you are considering losing weight, you should first do some research and analyze your body's requirements.
*Know Body Mass Index: Try to find out if you are overweight. The most standard method is to know your Body Mass Index (BMI). This is a formula using your weight (in kg) divided by your height (in meters. It categorizes you into three groups: overweight, obese, or extremely obese depending on your BMI number.
*Review your medicines: Do not consume any medicines that contribute to weight gain, such as some antipsychotics, lithium, anticonvulsants, and corticosteroids.
Another Quora used said, "There is no w ay to lose that much amount of weight (10kgs) in 10 or 20 days. Yeah you can lose 1 or 2kgs of weight in 20 days with the help of Yoga, practicing Kapalbhati Pranayama."
Majority of the users are of the view that it is not possible to lose 10kgs weight in a short span of time. One user said, "Losing weight is a gradual process."
