Is diet or exercise better for weight loss?

Is diet or exercise better for weight loss? All Woman Monday, February 15, 2016 , By PENDA HONEYGHAN

YOU'VE decided to become dedicated to your weight loss journey, but are pondering the big question: Which is more effective for weight loss, cutting your calories or sweating it out at the gym?

Nutritionist and wellness consultant Donovan Grant has answered the question: Dieting is more advantageous than exercise in losing weight.

"Diet and exercise are both very crucial to weight loss. However, diet does 75 per cent more than exercise is able to achieve," Grant said.

"With exercise you have less control over the weight you lose. You have to be disciplined in the exercise regimen and be certain to understand the types of exercise that you are doing and the results that they give," he continued.

Grant added that many people have the mistaken idea that exercise alone will cause them to shed pounds, but losing a few inches does not necessarily lead to weight loss. He said that exercise also increases the appetite, which could actually be counterproductive.

He advised people who are starting their weight loss journey to consider combining diet and exercise because they both have essential health and wellness benefits.

"While dieting is better, exercising regularly is equally important and crucial to ensuring the maintenance of weight loss. Exercise encourages weight management and is excellent for the firming of your skin and body as you lose weight," Grant said.
